On the 24th of November 2022 SmartProtect project and the Portuguese National Institute of Agricultural and Veterinary Research (INIAV) performed a workshop entitled “Use of advanced techniques in plant protection” in INIAV Alcobaça Innovation Pole (ENFVN) premises.
Around 100 farmers and technicians had the ability to familiarize with smart pest management tools and solutions, as well as with SmartProtect platform (https://platform.smartprotect-h2020.eu).
Presentations by INAGRO, Warwick University, AGENSO, Julius Kühn-Institut, Latvian Institute of Horticulture and Leuven University referred to the importance of using advanced technologies, the use of
Ultra Violet technologies to control pest and diseases, mobile disorder detection, mobile applications (apps) for pest and disease detection, and insect monitoring case studies from Latvia and Belgium.
As Alcobaça region is very active in agricultural production, adoption of smart IPM tools plays a significant role for local farmers.
