The University of Ljubljana (UL) was founded in 1919 and currently integrates 23 faculties and three arts academies. UL practices basic, applied and development research, striving for excellence and quality of the highest standard in all fields of science and arts, such as the humanities, social sciences, linguistics, arts, medicine, natural sciences and technology. Based on its own research projects as well as advances in research at home and abroad, the UL provides instruction and training to prominent scientists and experts, capable of leading sustainable development, with a view to respecting the legacy of European Enlightenment and Humanism as well as human rights. Achievements in the fields of science and arts are shared with other institutions carrying out scientific research.
The UL is very active in international research and educational programmes and projects, especially in the EU Framework Programmes (FP7, H2020) where in terms of the number of research projects it ranks among the top of universities and research organizations from the new EU Member States (EU 13). The UL offers its own as well as guest researchers an excellent research environment and modern research equipment for the development of breakthrough achievements and innovations.
